Show/Hide Hidden Files and Folders

Wonder why you don't see a file on your Windows PC? It's probably just a hidden file. Hidden files and folders are stored with a hidden attribute and only displayed when the operating system is configured to show them. There must be a good reason on why a file or folder is set to hidden, mainly to avoid unintentional deletion. So once you have the hidden files display together with all other files, just be extra careful when working on the files and folders.

An alternate method to show/hide hidden files is to make some changes on the Windows registry (see the articles at the bottom of this page); however, it is not recommended to use this method if you're not familiar with the Windows Registry.
  1. Open "My Computer" then select "Tools" >> "Folder Options".

  1. Select the "View" Tab, then under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folder" to show the hidden files/folders as follows: (To hide, select "Do not show hidden files and folder")
  2. Click "OK" to exit and accept the changes.
